From the Razor dirt bike battery to the Kuberg Freerider’s disappointing range, the dirt bike community never stops talking about battery life. However, where we discuss battery characteristics a lot, we don’t talk much about proper charging.
Should I charge my ebike after every ride? We’re sure you must’ve wondered something along those lines once. Keep reading because we’ve discussed the proper charging method below.
Should I Charge My Ebike After Every Ride?
Yes, it is best to charge your e-bike battery after every use. However, this is only because bikes have small ranges, and they run out of battery quickly. Most bikes can go up to 2 hours, and even the best can go on for 4 hours only.
By the time you bring them back, they’re in dire need of charging, and it is best to charge them immediately. This way, your bike will be ready for your next adventure. Also, if you drain your battery and leave it without charging, you run the risk of damaging the battery.
However, you shouldn’t charge an e-bike just for the sake of it. Overcharging your battery will damage it too, by not only reducing battery life but also reducing the battery’s ability to retain charging.
Only charge your e-bike if it drops below 40%. If you’re only taking it out for a few minutes, you can use it for days without needing to charge it. As a rule of thumb, never charge your bike if it’s above 60% unless you have a long trip you’re preparing for. If you’re wondering: should I charge my e-bike after every ride, the correct answer is it depends.
How Often Should You Charge an Ebike Battery?
Most people charge their batteries after every time they use their bikes. That’s a good tip if you use your bike a lot. However, we recommend you charge your bike when it’s somewhere between 60-40% of the battery. Should I charge my e-bike after every ride, is this what you’re thinking? Well, yes, but only if it drops below 40%.
We strictly recommend against letting your battery completely drain. However, every 30-40 days, you should let your battery touch 0% before you charge it. This increases battery life.
Is It Ok to Partially Charge E-bike Battery?
Yes, it is okay to charge your e-bike battery partially. We strongly recommend it. Partial charging your battery keeps its charging in control. It does not overstress the battery by charging 100% when you don’t need it to, and neither does it allow the battery to drain completely.
Partial charging is especially handy if you’re storing your bike for a long period. If you’re not using our bike, you need to keep it between 60-40%. You have to charge it if it turns 40% and below, but only until it comes back to 60%, never more. This is one of the best ways to keep your battery safe when you’re not using it for a long time.
