If you’ve read our Best Sur Ron Battery Upgrade Options article, you may have a good idea which Sur Ron battery upgrade you want.
If you’ve ever switched out your Sur Ron battery, you get a pretty good feel of how heavy they can be. But how much does a Sur Ron battery really weigh? Actually, the answer isn’t as simple as a single number.
There are lots of different types of Sur Ron batteries, each weighing differently. You’ve got aftermarket batteries, custom-built batteries, and Sur Ron’s stock batteries. So how much do these Sur Ron batteries weigh, and what makes them so heavy? Let’s find out.
How much does a Sur Ron battery weigh?
Sur Ron batteries vary in weight depending on what kind you’re using.
We found the lightest at 20 lbs (a little over 9 kg), and the heaviest at over 40 lbs (about 18 kg). It’s a pretty wide range.
If you are upgrading your Sur Ron battery, keep these weights in mind:
- Lithium Sur Ron Battery – 17 lbs (7.7 kg)
- Stock Sur Ron Battery – 20 lbs (9 kg)
- High Power Akku Sur Ron 60V Battery – 28 lbs (12.7 kg)
- LiteSpeed Bikes Sur Ron Range Extender – 30 lbs (13.6 kg)
- LiteSpeed Bikes 72V 45Ah Sur Ron Battery – 40 lbs (18 kg)
I wouldn’t really want a 40 pound battery because it will probably slow me down during a ride, but if it gives you a lot of range, then it might be worth it!
How Much Does a Stock Sur Ron X Battery Weigh?
The stock Sur Ron X battery weighs a modest 20 lbs.
That’s pretty light, but you also get a lot less range than the big aftermarket batteries. But don’t worry, you can always get a piggyback battery extender.
A piggyback battery extender for Sur Ron will boost your stock battery’s range without adding more than a pound’s worth of weight. This will also come in handy as a backup battery when you need it.
How Much Does a Lithium Battery Weigh?
A lithium Sur Ron battery weighs a little lighter than the stock at 17 lbs (or 7.7 kg). Even so, I consider that difference pretty unnoticeable unless you’re jumping high and taking a lot of air time in between.
What Impacts Battery Weight?
Sur Ron batteries have a lot of dry weight that comes from the kind of cells they use. Lead acid batteries would weigh 55% more than lithium batteries because lead is much denser. But lithium batteries also cost more since they use more advanced tech.
Additionally, the battery’s casing adds greatly to its weight. Aftermarket Sur Ron batteries generally come in aluminum casings. Some custom-built Sur Ron batteries feature a carbon-fiber shell so they’re lighter.
You can also get those custom-made, heavy duty aftermarket batteries with steel casings that almost take two people to carry. These will probably survive a total crash better than the bike itself… if it doesn’t rip the bike in half during a hard landing.
