If you’ve read our Best Sur Ron Battery Charger Options article, you’d have a pretty good idea which Sur Ron battery charger you’d like to charge your Sur Ron with. But how long do Sur Ron’s take to charge?
You’re in a rush on your way to the dirt track. You hop into your Sur Ron X and quickly turn the ignition – Nothing happens.
There’s no juice left in the Sur Ron battery. You’ve got a Sur Ron battery charger in your toolbox, but how long do Sur Rons take to charge?
Actually, there’s not a single answer.
Charging times differ depending on the Sur Ron X battery you’re using. The Sur Ron Light Bee batteries come in a bunch of different types, and they all take different amounts of time to charge.
We’ve got Sur Ron’s stock batteries, aftermarket batteries, and even custom-built batteries. So, how long do Sur Ron’s take to charge? Can you leave them charging overnight? Let’s find out.
How Long Do Sur Rons Take to Charge?
Sur Ron batteries take from 3 to 12 hours of charging. It all depends on what kind of battery you’re using. To give you a better idea of how much time it takes for each Sur Ron battery to charge, check out this list:
- Stock Sur RonX Battery – 3 hours
- Lithium Sur Ron X Battery – 3 hours
- High Power Akku Sur Ron X 60V Battery – 6 hours
- LiteSpeed Bikes 72V 45Ah Sur Ron X Battery – 12 hours
Based on this list of Sur Ron Light Bee X batteries, you can probably guess that the larger the batteries are, the longer they take to charge. Using a higher voltage charger will charge your Sur Ron faster if you have a voltage regulator.
Can you Overcharge a Sur Ron Electric Dirt Bike?
Straight answer: no.
Most modern electric dirt bike chargers — the Sur Ron’s included — are equipped with an overcharge protection system. Basically, it works by detecting full batteries and automatically shutting off the energy distribution.
That’s when you start seeing the green light on the Sur Ron X charger as opposed to the red light when it’s charging. In any case, if you’re using a charger that’s higher voltage and it’s not made for the Sur Ron, you might need to keep an eye on the battery level. Even with a voltage regulator.
A voltage regulator connects directly to your Sur Ron battery, but will not detect whether your battery is full and will keep on charging till your battery potentially explodes. On Sur Ron batteries, you can check your battery level by pressing the button right next to the top display.
Can you Leave a Sur Ron on Charge Overnight?
With the overcharge protection I mentioned before, yes, you can leave the Sur Ron on charge overnight.
I wouldn’t recommend it, though. A lot can go wrong when charging batteries and the last thing you want is a fire in your garage while you sleep.
Besides, even if the Sur Ron charger has already stopped charging your Sur Ron Light Bee X batteries, it’ll still draw power from the wall socket. So you’ll be paying more in electricity bills than you need to. Not cool.
